with a specified bit rate atm network, each dslam is allocated x ammount of bandwidth to be assigned to x number of users. even with all users online and using max bandwidth at the same time, the minimum bandwidth is still maintained for each user. however if the isp outsells the capacity of the atm network, hell yes you will be bottlenecked. this is a function of greedy isp's rather than the nature of dsl. this definately happens, but is not due to the connection type. cable on the other hand, shares bandwidth in almost all instances by the physical design of the network. in an ideal world, or with the right isp, dsl is a superior connection. you are tring to make a practical point in a theoretical arguement. -Chris
